Who am I?
As a GP for over 27years I've never been one for a fad diet; I've not tried the cabbage soup diet or the sardines diet. I've always tried to be healthy and avoid becoming overweight. But it's always been an uphill struggle. I've seen patients struggle too. People like you who came to see me with increasing weight or diabetes they couldn't control. People I advised to follow the Eat Well plate guidelines and to exercise more, even though this didn't seem to work for most people.
I've been that doctor, convinced you were "cheating" even though you told me you weren't. However after many years as a GP seeing people like you get unhealthier rather than more healthy, I realised it wasn't you that was "cheating" it was me. I was "cheating" by relying on what I was being told rather than doing my own research. I swallowed (pun intended) each new piece of advice that came through backed by the NHS or NICE or the Government.
While avoiding the fad diets, I’ve still tried lots of ways to make sure I had the most healthy diet. You may recognise some of them, and you may have tried others:
Eat everything in moderation
Low fat
High fibre
Vegetarian
Whole-food-plant-based
Eat 30 fruits and veg every week
While doing my own reading and research, I started to understand just how much our food impacts our metabolic health, and how insulin resistance (driven by eating excessive amounts of processed carbohydrates) probably underpins a lot of the chronic diseases we all suffer with.
For now, I'd just like you to know, that first and foremost, I believe that we need to start by eating Real Foods.
I offer coaching support to help real people choose real food to achieve real results.
